Photographer's Note
Interior of the Notre Dame de Paris cathedral. This was kind of a hand-held shot. I mounted the camera to my UltraPod II, then held that as tight as I could up against a column on one edge of the hallway (this is not the main hall, this was one off to the side of where the service was being held.) A nice long shutter of 20 seconds gives the impression the cathedral is haunted. It did shock me how many people let their flash go off even though there were plenty of signs asking that nobody take a flash photo. Not to mention the space inside was so large that even having a flash firing wasn't going to give them very good photos...

Hi Curtis,
Excellent composition with very good management of exposure. Very good job working with the conditions present. I also like the wide angle you use here.
Nice work, thanks for sharing!

Curtis,
Amazing capture for having to semi hand-hold this. I don't think I could handle a 20-second shutter speed. Positioning the end of the corridor at a third makes this more interesting. I love the detail of the vaulted ceiling and the "ghosting" effect of the people. The lights on the left might have been excluded or toned down in PP.
Cheers!

Hi Curtis:
I like this. I'm not sure why it hasn't gotten more points. I think the long shutter speed with the people moving gives several impressions--one can be that it's haunted, another can be kind of a multi-century time lapse shot showing all the people that have come and gone in the cathedral's history. That's funny about the flash photography. I noticed the same thing when I went to Washington DC earlier this month--people using flash photography when it asked not to, even though a flash was worthless. I was probably one of those people before I knew anything about photography, haha. Anyway, great job.

Hello Curtis,
I am really surprised that your photo hasn't received more comments. I am behind on my critiques and I normally would have caught your wonderful photo sooner. I soon purchased a small mini tripod while visiting NYC three weeks ago. Any type of supporting device is of great help when using flash and a full-sized tripod is prohibited. You rendered this famous landmark beautifully and the ghost like figures go hand-in-hand with this ancient cathedral. It takes considerable technical skill to be able to take a photo like this without the support of a sturdy tripod. Very impressive work!
