Photographer's Note
This was one of my first decent shots encouraging me to get more serious about photography. Gale force winds whipping southward down Lake Michigan sometimes as high as 60 mph with waves averaging 12 feet. Minolta Freedom 140EX, fuji 400, hand held. Tell me what you think

Scary, I saw a storm like this wreck a freighter near Milwaukee on Lake Michigan. (The Photinia)
I think you did well to capture the wave shapes and the wind tearing the tops off the waves at the same time, in a gale no less. You have texture in the clouds and the water. The only improvement for me would have been to have light from a sunrise (so it would be behind you) just clipping the tops of the waves and the tower. Shame there was no light on top of the tower.

Well John, I would certainly encourage you to go on like this...
The image miss a little more sharpness but the composition and framing are perfect!

A nice composition. Diagonals leading to a off-central point with a clear object that raises above the horizon. And these curly waves absolutely make it shot that might remind people of the powers of natute ;)

So threatening and powerful, when you see wave crests almost as thick and white as the clouds, you know this not good news.
Shot at the very right moment, but a pity your scan is not up to the pic.

Fantastic sky and fantastic clouds. The waves and the action are just fine, but it is the texture and the depth of the clouds that draws me in. And the dark blue of the sky really underlines the black of the water. Powerful.

Very nice picture. I had never thought of hearing of so great storms on these interior lakes. Good report.

This is a very strong image. You can almost feel the wind and water. I like the way the lighthouse is sandwiched between the sky and water.

Hi John.
This landscape is powerful and very very gorgeus. I love the timming and the whole scene with that menacing wave.
Well done.
