Photographer's Note

This is at the highest point on the road to this mountain valley, with an altitude close to 1000 m. The remaining road is 4-5 km and we can see the lake in the background. In this altitude there isn’t much large vegetation to show the autumn palette, but the colours come through and are very well visible in the ground vegetation.

The weather this day was quite amazing for this late in September… Sunshine, no wind and temperature above 20C is quite unusual in the altitude this time of year!

Some years ago this area had a quite large population of reindeer, but judged by what I see nowadays the number is considerably reduced. Back in the 1970s one could observe quite large flocks gathering to cool down on patches of remaining snow during warm days in early summer…

September is hunting season, and in the area we see here it is mostly grouse. However this mountain bird is said to be scarce this year, but I could still hear a few shotguns while staying in the area.

The lake in the background is about 10 km long and 3-4 km wide, populated mostly by trout but also some Arctic char. This time of year it is spawning season, and the fish seek to the small streams to secure the future of the species. (48/135/0)
