Photographer's Note

These two trees should not be here at all! This location is above the tree line and as you see there are no other trees around. Looking closely at the shape of the birches you notice they are both bent the same way, which is due to the main wind direction that is from the Northwest during winter.

There is no doubt they are survivors, and I don’t even dare to estimate their age but they have been there for as long as I can remember, well visible as they are from the road to Samsjøen!

In the 1980ties they decided build a road from Singsaas to Samsjøen, to get easier access to this recreational area with cabins and weekend houses. There was already a track, but not at all suited for car traffic, at the best tractors could do the trip. The distance is 15 km through a mix of forest, bog and mountain landscapes, rising 6-700 m from the valley.

All images in this series have one thing in common: They are taken from the road, and will include the road itself or its close surroundings!
