Photographer's Note
I know it sounds morbid but graveyards in Ireland offer interesting photo opportunities, like this one here at famous Glendalough. To those familiar with this place, the inclusion of the signature medieval Round Tower in the distance probably immediately places this image.
Glendalough is a beautiful elevated wooded valley of lakes providing the natural setting for what is perhaps Ireland's most fascinating monastic site. The settlement was established by St. Kevin in the 6th century, and despite being sacked by the Vikings numerous times over the years, it flourished for nearly 600 years. While I've only shown the Round Tower, there are several interesting buildings and ruins here most of which date from the 8th to 12th centuries.
For this shot here, I treaded very lightly around the graves as I felt a keen sense of awe and respect of the site's history. And while Glendalough is an evocative place it's also highly popular, so I recommend you get here as early in the day as you can to beat the tour buses.

Nice! Thanks for reminding me about this day. I will have to get a costume for my little girl sometime soon. Nice work with this image. The tower on the right make a good contrast against the smaller tombstones. Cemeteries are not as scary as most people think. You can be sure that if you camp in one you will not be bothered by other people partying in the middle of the night ;-) Thanks Doug.

Not morbid but a little spooky maybe :) Or let's put it this way: Just the circle of life, a normal procedure that we do not want to be reminded of. These stones are somehow attractive and how they stick up into the endless blue sky. Another symbol maybe.
And: Congratulations, dad! Wow what an adventure. Normally I choose something more "babyish" if I send out wishes but TE is a different space so I might as well use your latest post. For me it is a happy photo anyway with this green grass against the beautiful Irish sky with the clouds moving through. Of course, juxtaposition of old stone to greenery or flowers is very appealing and your take excells in that matter by the multi-layered plans for a three-dimensional view, crowned by such spectacular skies.

Its alway nice to stumble upon these old grave yards. I don't think I could ever sleep on one like Roberto is saying. Great color and depth even before you get to the layered clouds in the bg. So sharp you can read it. TFS, Steve S.

I see that jr. made it into TE. Congratulations! It seems that he is letting you continue your activity at TE. I wonder when that is happening. Somewhere between feeding and changing the diapers at 00:50? Oh man, what a life ... Wonderful image of old and new christian Ireland. I see a certain mix of very old with that tower and relatively new with a gravestone 1934.

I don't find it morbid. It's reality of our world. And indeed, the image has beautiful colors and light. Furthermore, I find it interesting to see how different graveyards can be around the world.
The Round Tower is a nice addition to the picture.

Hi Douglas,
I'm thinking about spending some days in Ireland next year, just bought a guide book and this is one of the first places that got my attention for the heritage value in this site. You have here a nice collection of elements and the light tells you got a few minutes of sunshine out of an Irish weather day, so the impression is luminous.
