Photographer's Note
Typical shop and street scene in the Temple Bar district of Dublin City, Ireland.
Wandering the narrow cobbled streets of Temple Bar is definitely a highlight of visiting Dublin. The Temple Bar is Dublin's cultural quarter and has a very lively nightlife. It's one of those places that is highly popular with tourists and locals alike. It's a great place to eat, drink, and listen to street performers.
Among the numerous cultural institutions in the area are the Irish Photography Centre, Irish Film Institute, and Temple Bar Music Centre. And yes, Trinity College is right around the corner.
But despite the talk of lively nightlife, my shot here depicts a quieter Temple Bar that perhaps can only be experienced in the early morning hours before much of the city has awaken. My wife and I had arrived in Dublin the day before, and after a very early first night, we awoke early the next day and headed into the city on the Luas (the city's light rail system).
Temple Bar was one of the first spots we explored as just about everything else had yet to open. On this overcast early morning, the saturated shutters on this craft store really caught my eye.
For post-processing, I used a little boosted color saturation on the yellows of the window sills to bring a little more attention to the shutters.
Hope you enjoy!
Doug

Hello Douglas,
very nice point of view from this colourful place. I like the details inside with colourful door and beautiful window on second floor. Very clever to choose the black frame to make it contrast. Very nice, tfs

The architecture may not be the most detailed but the cobblestone street and the colourful door and windows definitely add a nice touch and charm to the image. The inclusion of people is very good to add size to the scene. Good saturation and excellent angle to compose the image. Thanks Doug.

Hello Doug -
The Temple Bar is one those place you really like or you hate. Having visited the Temple Bar during the day and the night I much prefer the day as it is less crowded and definitely less noisy. Technically this is a well executed image but the subject matter is a bit on the boring side. True it is a colorful building like many in Dublin but it just lacks something IMO. Sorry.
Thank you for sharing.

Great study in architectural details, with the repeated form of the red shutters making a very interesting pattern. Wonderful texture too. The lone person on the pavement adds an essential bit of life to this, without which this would be too sterile. Well done!

Hi Doug,
The peaceful early mornin g atmosphere allos the beauty of neighbor hood to shine: the cobbles, the shutters, the flower boxes nand the mellow brink. Of course the man huddled in the doorway makes the shot perfect. HLJ, Pat

Hi Doug,
Wonderful capture of these lovely doorways with their beautiful complimentary colors. Excellent details and nice contrast between the grey cobblestones and the brightly colored doorway. Beautiful note that made me appreciate the early morning mood of this composition.

Some nice color accents here, Doug, and I like how you framed it to put the closest edge of the sidewalk just above the bottom of the frame. It is a bit static, with just one stationary person (far away), but the nice geometry keeps that from being much problem. It's amazing for a nightlife area to look so clean! Regards, Ken.

Hey Doug,
The Color brings Character to the scene but maybe the other building could be cropped out? The sidewalk is composed perfectly into the scene.

I didn't know Temple Bar could be this quiet.:)
The red and yellow combination is very eye-catching. Your perspective composition works well too, leading the eye to the lone figure on the door-step. It looks like the cleaner turned up early for work or a late night reveller forgot the way home.

Hey Doug, I see that you were really totally in jet lag and got on the street while everyone was still enjoying their beds. The only exception seems to be that fellow sitting/laying there in the door entrance. The contrast of colors of that building in the foreground is certainly quite attractive, although I have the same feeling as John. Something is missing here. Just more people?
