Photographer's Note

Taken while on a camping trip in Cape Breton, near the coastal town of Cheticamp. This is one of the few places in Nova Scotia where the first language is French. The shot was taken in early evening, on a warm night. That's confirmed by the open windows on the house. I suppose I was drawn by the intense but noticeably receding light, going out, as it were, with those extreme tides on the west coast of the province. The subject is one more example of how the Cape Breton Highlands tightly juxtapose hills and ocean, with a sometimes sparse scattering of houses.
