Another photograph of The Golden temple.

This was taken the next morning at the premises.Golden Temple is surrounded by this pool of water which is known as AMRIT SAROVAR (AMRIT: A drink which is supposed to make a person immortal (Hindu mythology); In Gurbani the term is used as a synonym for Naam, God’s virtues. In the Khalsa Rahit it refers to the sanctified water first prepared by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699 for Panj Pyaras by reciting specified Gurbani hymns while stirring the water with a khanda, double-edged sword. Now it is prepared for initiating members to the Khalsa Panth.) and is known for its amazing curing properties.Devotees take a bath here before entering the snactorum and even infants are given this water to free them all ailments and make them pure.

Guru Nanak came to the Amrit Sarovar in 1502 along with Bhai Mardana and declared it a very sacred place. When Bhai Tara heard the guru’s words he immediately fetched freshly made karah prasad from his home and offered it to the guru and Bhai Mardana who declared it as amrit — food. Guru Nanak said this amrit should be served at the site for all time to come.

Guru Amar Das too visited the site. He later sent Bhai Jetha (who became Guru Ram Das afterwards) to populate a new city. He constructed the Amrit Sarovar with his own hands. Guru Arjan Dev established Harmandir Sahib to make the city’s people ahile-mukam or "people having the divine place of pilgrimage". When the construction of Harmandir Sahib was completed in 1601 AD, Guru Arjan Dev started editing Sri Adi Granth Sahib.
