Photographer's Note
I had a particular attraction towards these small flowers because they were amidst burnt out shrub and had a bright contrast in color, against the twigs. In a way, they represent hope for this town in Mexico amidst poverty and dirt. They are a sign of hope for something brighter and better that is yet to come for the wonderful, loving people of Baha.

Pretty flowers, and I like your interpretation. However, something about the yellow is so bright that it is hard to see the flowers sharply.

The yellow flower stands out of its surrounding and I like the title too.

Anita, I am in La Paz now, having just travelled the length of the Peninsula in the last week, so I know how well you did to find this splash of yellow amidst all the green and brown of the desert and the cacti.
I really like your composition with the contrasting colours but unfortunately there are just a few too many technical imperfections to justify two points.
First, I see you have tried to make the flower stand vertically at the expense of the background, but for me it doesn't work. That sloping horizon is just too distracting. I would have kept the horizon level and accepted the flower at an angle. I think it would have looked cool like that anyway.
Second, your focus is a little off on the flower. I could let you off with that, but in addition, your background focus is not good either. It's neither blurred enough to be a blank canvas of a background, and it's not sharp enough to be a landscape background. I think you were probably aiming for a sharp background but I guess you were at the mercy of your camera on that. Backing away from your subject a bit and then focussing on it may have helped keep the background sharp (or use of an SLR!!!)
Lastly, your sky is a little overexposed and washed out; you could try exposing for the sky to keep it nice and detailed; you'll find the foreground then is too dark but you can correct that on your computer.
Overall, a nice shot with lots to learn from it. TFS!!
