Photographer's Note
Continuation on my theme about the TE members I admire. To know what this is all about please read the introductory notes on the first post of the series.
Gal’s photography has a great deal to do with the individual. It’s certainly not by chance that more than 30% of his posts here present just a single person across the entire frame. And they are not close portraits or something similar... For me, Gal searches for the most intimate portrait of the human role in the present social environment. He guides us through a journey where the main actors may be you and me, facing time (hence the preeminent clock in my picture) and the inner complex strength of our own memories. Every single person in Gal’s photos is full of a psychological charge. They always seem to be going somewhere – more that 20% of his pictures show us a walking man – and it’s that destination to where the whole picture flows. I often see them as wanderers, pilgrims of this modern society who walk not to go anywhere but mainly to discover themselves.
Gal has been at this same place last July and was in my mind when I shot this traveler at the fluvial station. I don’t know where is heading too, but if you ask Gal, he might share with you a philosophy class built on top of these simple human steps.
Obrigado Amigo pela sensibilidade das tuas imagens. Elas são constante fonte de inspiração onde a minha imaginação vem beber. É um prazer seguir a tua visão deste maravilhoso mundo.

ola luis,
very successful i think, very powerful - the play with the light and shadows is outstanding, and just one predominating colour of yellow works so well here,
very good work,
best wishes, j.

Well this is just the most fascinating series, Luis. And there IS quite a lot of Gal in this one, sure, but also your own sure touch, so we get two for the price of one... Great concept overall and this one is an excellent follow-up to the first.
I love your intelligent observations about Gal's work too. The note is first rate all the way.
Fine stuff (can't wait to see more...)

Hi Luis

When we spend our lives analysing our environment, it is always somehow disturbing to stumble upon an analysis of ourselves made by someone else. I first felt uncover and unease while reading you, but soon understood the privilege of being a visitor in your thoughts. And what honour can we grant to our host, other than smiling in silence as an approval accordance to a link about to rise between similar individuals. My first thought was to question my merit to deserve such homage. But aren’t we all worth of care and recognition in our movement to touch our fellow humans with our personal vision, interacting and exploring, opening new doors to our knowledge, giving place to reborn feelings.
For those who wouldn't speak Portuguese, the sign below the clock says: “Tickets…and other titles”. A paradox in my understanding, when playing with words, since when we’re given the opportunity to have a ticket, hence an opened door to departure, who’d need another title? Who needs ANY title at all, when granted with the fundamental. On the clock it is written Lisboa right there where we usually expect, and are used to see, Switzerland.
Maybe you knew the ticket to Lisbon is one of those I’ve been missing the most in my life. Maybe you didn’t. Beyond the station, through the iron door, there is a harsh light hiding a city I can guess, a place where my memories run free, the sound of the river in its way to the ocean and the warmth of a mother’s arms. Thank you. Um abraço forte.

Hola Luis. Buen trabajo.

hey Miguel, I like a lot this serie that you've initiated, it's so nice from you to pay tribute to other TE members, as you are a very good photographer you wouldn't have to do it, but you do it and that's remarquable I think.
For your picture I like the perfect management of the exposure and the position of the person, like dancing when you look at his/her feet.
Kindly
Yan

Hi again Luis, not only is this an excellent imitation of Gal's work from what I've seen of his gallery (right down to the tilt in the composition) but, once again, it is an excellent photograph in its own right.
You have captured a wonderful light and the exposure throws the man into silhouette perfectly. Good control of depth-of-field too to emphasise his departure rather than the man himself, so fully supporting the vision described in your Note.
I look forward to more. Stephen

Hello Luis,

Hi Luis,
I must say thanks for the previous dedication. And to return the favor, my 400th will be for you:) In your style, I hope.
What this series shows me is that you are really paying attention to others on TE. And that means you are absorbing, and learning. And Gal is a great one to learn from! Great note, deep analysis, you are verbalizing things on a deep level.
Great work. The use of the fantastic and fantastically positioned silhouette in this great envirionment. Shooting into bright light you got the exposure bang on. I cant fault anything here.

Hi Luis,
Perfect framing in a strong composition. I like the opposite light in there yellow tones, brings really out the warmth in this image.
The man, the clock, it all fits perfectly. A nice tribute to Gal...he deserves this.

This is an awesome shot Luis. The light and color are masterfully handled. This is a great tribute to Galeota. Your note made me realize things about his photography that I had not yet seen, or understood. My hats off to you for your ability to analyze, understand, and then to also implement what you have learned. This tribute not only teaches us about great photographers on TE but it also shows just how talented and diverse a photographer you are. Is this also taken at Cais do Sodré? At first glance it reminded me of the train station at Rossio, but I haven't been to Lisbon in years, so my memory is probably playing tricks on me.

Ryan

Hi Luis,
I’m not a «style follower» and I’m not really aware about everyones patterns and style, since I mostly go for the images instead of the person. I might underline a beginner’s effort or a masterpiece of a pro like Simon. So I don’t necessarely recognize the photographic personnality of every members to whom you’re paying this tribute, but I really appreciate your own work in this interpretation game. I really think it’s a fabulous idea and I’ll scrutinized the gallery of your idols for the visual parallel.
But looking at this one for it’s own values, I think it’s amazingly fantastic. Centered composition works nicely here, as symmetrical elements are justifying it. This backlit effect create an almost monochrome scene with great warm colours. The geometrical aspect of the clock and windows create a wonderful background for the organic shape of the traveller silhouette.
Awesome image!

Well Luis, I came to mark this about half an hour ago and have ended up on about ten different peoples pages due to following Gal's link. Still it was worth it and thanks for pointing him out. This is very good as the exposure is just right for this subject. Very nice shot Luis.
br,
mark
