Photographer's Note
At Chandpdal ghaat in Kolkata on the morning of Makar sankranti. He is one of several thousands of people who have gathered on the banks of the river for the ritual bath. Pilgrimage is believed to bring salvation, and one gets rids of his/her sins by taking a dip in the holy rivers on the auspicious occasions.
This old man has come with a group of several people, all the way from Lucknow.

aah, what a remarkable, beautiful shot! I am amazed at this formidable composition, with the pilgrim on the right and the river, so white, behind him. A very, very evocative, beautiful work all the way... superb b/w, Arnab! Bravo!

Hello Arnab,
this one is good, but I preferred the one you have posted earlier, with colors and with the people on the left. However this misty mood of this one is really nice. Please post the original version ;o)...I cannot imagine a picture of India in B&W anymore, so much colors to see ;o).
Take care
Luan

Lovely portrait. The fog or haze makes the background fade away nicely so we can concentrate on him. I like how he is looking across this long low frame from one side.

Hi Arnab,
What a great and well composed shot. I like the look of this old man and the way you managed to get him in the right side and at the same time a very good view in the background.
Really nice!

Yes...facial expression and rich detail is always good in B/W. It simplify attention, while the ambience, draws attention back to the subject. This I liked. Even the over exposed part in a way worked in maintaining visual to the pilgrim. Well done Arnab.

This one is a gem! The detail on this man is superb, and the diagonal line leading to the men on the jetty in the fog is very useful.

A great shot...I love his face and expression, and the workers in the background, but it is the relationship and contrast between the subject and background that makes it work so well to my eyes. The balance of light and dark is superb. Only a few film grain needed...
cheers, David
