Photographer's Note

The Khutse Game Reserve covers an area of 2500 square kilometres. The extensive mineralised pan system within Khutse provides an important habitat for wildlife. It attracts herbivores to graze on the grasses of the pans, to drink the mineralised water during the rainy season and to lick salt during the dry season. In turn, these herbivores attract predators, such as lion, cheetah and leopard. Large concentrations of game can be seen in the reserve, as well as a large range of bird life.

There are no tourist lodges, chalets or rest camps in Khutse. Nor are there any shops or fuel supplies. Developments have been kept to a minimum and the wilderness atmosphere is carefully preserved. You can only get there with a 4x4 vehicle, and all visitors to Khutse must be completely self-contained in all their requirements, including drinking water. This is as real as it gets!!!

We stayed next to the Moreswe Pan in the western part of the reserve. This photo was taken at around 07:00 in the morning, showing the view from our campsite.

During the next couple of weeks I hope to post more pics of the amazing animals and sights we encountered there....
