Photographer's Note
According to ancient myths the delta east of Samsun was the land of the Amazons. The geographer Strabo (64 BC-21 AD) describes the Amazons as a people of female warriors. In order to shoot easily with bow and arrow they had one of their breast removed. Amazon is derived from the old Greek and means 'without breasts'. The Amazons used men from neighbouring peoples to reproduce themselves and male children were sent to neighbouring peoples. The myths situate the period of the Amazons about 1200 BC.

Thanks for the note - very interesting. I recently saw a documentary which claimed that direct decentants of the Amazon women can be found among some of the remote nomads of Mongolia. Aparently even though DNA comparisons weren't 100% conclusive, there are some many similarities in the designs of dress, bows and decorations that it's at least very likely.
The photo is great. Excelent idea, well executed. Just wish the statue was a bit better lit, but that's not your fault. Well done.

It's quite difficult to get them all together: sky & stars, buildings, and at the very same time, getting others away: people, noise etc. You got it in this picture, and it is perfect in all ways. right moment, right compo, and right technical skills to get it translated into a great picture.
