Photographer's Note
The Galápagos Fountain or Isabel II Fountain is a monumental fountain in Madrid, located in the Retiro Park. Inaugurated in 1832, it was originally part of the San Luis network, on Gran Vía.
Different studies propose that it was commissioned to commemorate different events related to what would become Queen Elizabeth II: either she swears her as Princess of Asturias, or her birth or her first birthday. The fountain was designed by the architect Francisco Javier de Marietegui, with granite and limestone sculptures carved by José Tomás.
Oil on copper by Ramón Gil Rey, signed and dated September 1840. Private collection.
Photograph of Alfonso Begué in 1864, when he was still in the San Luis Network.
The fountain was not only commemorative and ornamental, but also served to supply water, for which in 1839 seventeen water carriers were authorized. The flow of its nine pipes was twelve reales of fleece of water (the flow was then measured by calculating the amount of water that flowed through a pipe with a diameter of one real).
After the inauguration in 1858 of the Isabel II canal, the fountain gradually ceased to have a utilitarian function and, given its size, in 1865 it was proposed to move it to the Plaza de Santa Ana, without actually becoming a reality.7 In 1879, the director of Plumbing and Sewerage of the City Council, José Urioste, decided to take it to the roundabout of Nicaragua in the Retiro Park, near the Puerta de Alcalá and the Estanque Grande.

Hello Luis,
This is a photo of stunning colours and contrasts. It really jumps at me from among the other thumbnails. You took it from an angle where you have a lot of bright flowers as a lower frame and trees neatly placed on the sides. I guess the WS is an enlargement of a detail of this photo, so naturally it lost some sharpness. Iy is still a good complement.
Best regards,
Gert

Hola Luis,
Beautiful fountain, very well presented.
The light was magnificent. The flowers decorate it nicely in the foreground and the trees make a lovely background.
Very eye pleasing warm color tones across the frame.
It is always best to present photos from your local area because you can visit a place many times and have a better chance fro great light conditions.
Excellent work,
M

Hola Luis,
This really is a beautiful fountain.
I like the plinth, the sculptured cherubs and the tall fountain, like a trumpet, cascading water towards the dolphins.
The flowers are a colourful, f/g inclusion which, along with the trees, help to create a surrounding frame.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

A beautiful fountain, well placed in front of the blue sky and in between the trees. The colours are very well-saturated in this bright sunlight.
