Photographer's Note

Two Crosses

A simple photo of the 368-metre tall Berlin Television Tower (Fernsehturm) and the Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom) as seen from the boulevard Unter den Linden. The first cross is of course the golden one on top of the dome of the cathedral. The second cross is created by the sunlight reflected in the stainless steel dome of the tower, which was built in the late 1960s near Alexanderplatz in East Berlin. This cross has been nicknamed the “Rache des Papstes” or the “Pope’s Revenge”, referring to the state atheism of East Germany. The four sculptures on the left hand side stand on top of the main building of the Humboldt University.
