Photographer's Note

More memories from my big adventure in 1999. After seeing Machu Picchu, Cusco, Canyon Colca, Titicaca Lake, Tiwanaku and many more places in Peru and Bolivia, we returned to Lima and started the journey north. We travelled by bus 1800 km to Quito, Ecuador, visiting less known cities like Trujillo, Chan Chan, Lambayeque and Cuenca. My dream was to see the Amazon jungle. Unfortunately, we couldn't go to Iquitos because there were no flight tickets.rnrnWhen we went by bus to Banos in Ecuador (buses in South America are a fantastic experience itself) I sat near the guy. We start taking. He asked me about our journey. I told him about my dream to see jungle (it is called selva in Spanish). And what a lucky coincidence. He was a guide! When we came to Banos, we went to the travel agency where he worked, and they organized for us the excursion. We went with this guy and he had for us the special program. We stayed in such primitive huts near the river Pastaza, visited indigenous villages, went by a narrowboat. It was the "real" jungle. Of course, there were no restaurants there. We took all the products with us and the guide cooked the meals. In the jungle, the guide went first with a machete to make a path for us. We visited one guy who had his private botanical garden with various orchids and other plants, and another who had some animals - coatis, snakes, turtles, parrots, tapirs and capybaras. and the end of this adventure was even more spectacular - there was an eruption of volcano Tungurahua.
The area was somewhere there:,+Ecuador/@-1.9295003,-78.2022862,11.75z/

see the capybaras:
The capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) is a giant cavy rodent native to South America. It is the largest living rodent in the world.

and tapir:
A tapir is a large, herbivorous mammal, similar in shape to a pig, with a short, prehensile nose trunk. Tapirs inhabit jungle and forest regions of South America, Central America, and Southeast Asia.
