You're right , this is the perfect timing , and i think that was less than a couple of seconds to capture.
This is an ideal element on the water to complete the composition , where we also can see the superb architecture of the old Porto .

It seems that every day there are rowrs on the Coimbra's Mondego river, Craig. If you will take a look at my Coimbra photos you will find thos eguys from 10/10/2010 around the same place...
Wonderful old town view from across, the university tower shown beautifully atop.

*** The Tzfat stairs picture was my last from that trip, could not just enter houses to take photos indoor's.
The blue stars are the "Star-of David" a jewish symbol, that's a synagogue. Thanks.

Hello Craig,
In August 1984 I stood in the same spot (found it by myself), but since there was no boat on the river that day I pointed my camera more to the left to capture a few women doing the laundry. Maybe there are no washerwomen these days? Like you I loved this view of the city, and had I been there in the digital era I would have taken many photos, not just one or two. Although the boat is going out of the photo we can get an impression it's going into it, because the rowers are looking that way, so you actually placed it perfectly. I guess I should dig out my photo. I have a scan I made years ago but I don't like the colours. If I can make a better copy I will post it here.

Hello Craig,

Indeed a nice timing with the boat in foreground, but also the houses of the city in background.
Also the colour and structure is nice photographed.
You create a nice depth an good perspective.

Great photo of the many rows of houses of the city built against the hill. They show the town so well and the soft but warm sunlight brings out the colours and details so well. The inclusion of the rowers is the icing on the cake, perfect timing indeed!

The fr row boats add depth and layering to the composition. The clock tower top left provides a focal point. Good sharpness and amazing repetition of the patterns and shapes formed by the tightly packed buildings on the steep hillside. Tfs!

Perfect timing indeed! And, because of the way the rowers are placed in the boat, to most people who don't know that sport very well, it will look like they are moving from right to left and have only just entered the frame. :-)
It's amazing that it looks almost the same as in Gert's photo and that, thirty years apart, you both concentrated on the people in the foreground.
