Photographer's Note

Bhutanese Girl in tshechu....Religious festivals are very common in Bhutan. The most important are known as Tshechus which commemorate the great deeds of Guru Rinpoche who is credited with introducing Tantric Buddhism to Bhutan in the 8th century. Guru Rinpoche's merciful acts are believed to have taken place on the 10th day (according to the Bhutanese calendar) of the month, which is the meaning of the word "Tshechu." The Tshechu I observed was held over October 5-7, 2003 and attracted thousands of city locals and farmfolk from the surrounding countryside.
