Photographer's Note
ENGLISH: This is a scene from the beatiful baroque city of Catania. Originally settled by the Greeks (and named Katane) to mean "grater" or "flaying knife", it has had a tumultuous history with influences from the Arabs, the Greeks, the Romans, the Normans and even the Vandals. Lying at the foot of the volcano Mt Etna can be a blessing and a curse. The town was almost totally destroyed in 1693 by the earthquake and has been threatened many times by the eruptions of Etna.
I dedicate this photo to Maurizio (Mauro61). I'm glad you're back.

Howdy Catanialisa,
I was at first attracted to the dramatic romanesque dome in the background, then noticed the outdoor cafe in the shadows, a perfect place to sip some Merlot or what the Catania's recommend?
Have a fine weekend, and enjoy the longer rays of approaching summer.
Sincerely,
Ray

ciao Lisa,
grazie per la dedica.
Un bell'angolo di città tra stili diversi e l'immancabile localino nelle vie del centro.
Bella la cupola che con la sua imponenza si eleva sulle case,
un abbraccio

Just a bit of backlight-effect prevailed this, Lisa.
Yet the Dome prominantly rise above the old facade on a little piazza, and give a majestic view on town.
Fine sharp details collected.
Enjoy a nice weekend.

Hi Lisa,
A beautiful shot of a beautiful city.
The lighting here is what really makes this in my humble opinion. The side-lit dome stands proudly above a more shaded building with lovely windows and canopies - but it's not all in shade - it has some lovely lighter patches upon it brought about, I suspect, by reflections of light from the building on the left, this again having wonderfully lit with oblique lighting across its face.
Both the dome and the interesting lamppost are placed perfectly in the frame, balancing one another out.
Lovely muted colours and, as usual, superb detail and sharpness.
A fine dedication to Maurizio!
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Ciao Lisa,
I like the moment the picture was taken. It is to sunny and to hot to be in the sun. Everybody is looking for the shade, and why not when the food is good and the wine fresh.
Have a nice sunday

Hi Lisa
interesting shot.
right away i see the contrasts of old and new.
old architecture, and new age appliances such as air conditioning units on the balconies.
and i like how the 3 buildings are overlapping eachother.
also, they are all different, one looks super clean, the next is grungy looking, and then a dome in the bg.
cool.
have a great weekend, i'll be working night shifts sat and sun.

You've got a great view of the slice of the city through your viewfinder which you've captured nicely with great light management. The pov is perfect with intact framing to include in the image. Nice shot.

Hello Lisa
A good architectural shot from Sicily. Excellent sharpness & effective tight framing. Good shadow detail on the outdoor diners at right. The bg domed church looming over the fg is a good addition. Tfs!

Ciao Cara, Apart from some graffiti & that's not obvious here, I saw very little if any sign of modern-day Vandalism ;-) Nice shot with the Dome very prominent & attracting the attention but quickly noticed the detail in the buildings, lovely lamp & of course the people enjoying some refreshments. Sptitz ? In Sicily most unlikely, more like coffee, granita & gelato. Well done, nice scene & very well captured.
Take care

Splendid photo Lisa,
The three buildings intersecting themselves create a fine sense of volumes and space with lots of depth and a sense of three-dimensionality. The architecture is very interesting and the light management masterful. Really a smart composition and such attractive image.
Well done,
