This is another picture of Princep Ghat on the banks of the river Ganga in Kolkata. Situated near the Vidyasagar Setu, it is one of the restored heritage buildings in Kolkata.

This photo is a sequel to my previous post.

This picture clearly contrasts the architectures of the past and present -- while the former is rich in 19th century popular style influenced by Greek and Gothic inlays, the bridge reflects the contemporary geometrical structure.

The Vidyasagar Setu is an engineering marvel. Otherwise known as the "Second Hooghly bridge", this suspension bridge connects the twin cities of Kolkata (Calcutta) and Howrah. Inaugurated in the year 1992, it was built at a cost of Rs. 3.88 billion. It is capable of holding around 85,000 vehicles every day. This beautiful bridge, named after Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, spans the river Hooghly and has been built to share the traffic load of the existing Howrah Bridge.

The Workshop post shows the bridge from the interior of the Princep Ghat memorial. Sorry, I could not take the best views of the bridge,just beyond this point, as Photography of the bridge is strictly prohibitted there (warning signboards all around). Maybe I can take photos of the bridge from the other side of the river one day, and post here on TE.
