Photographer's Note

Gurudongmar Lake, at 17150 ft, is one of the highest lakes in the world. It is situated in North Sikkim
at a distance of only 8 Kms from the Sino-Indian border and is one of the sources of River Teesta.

The nearest settlement is the small hamlet of Thangu.
However, most visitors take a say trip of 50Kms (one way) from the village of Lachen. After Thangu, the journey will take you through barren windswept terrain
till you reach the lake. It is a spectacular sight.
The name is derived from Guru Nanak who visited this lake in one of his religious journey.

In this pic, taken on a very dull, windy and overcast day at about 1200 Hrs, the glacier feeding the lake is seen among dense cloud formations, making it an almost B&W landscape barring the colour of the water.
