Photographer's Note

In mid September 2009, I was in Cadiz for my job. It was a Friday. The following Monday, I had to be in Madrid. Spending a weekend in Madrid was not very attractive. I do not find this city so scenic. I decided to stay in Arcos de la Frontera. It is very close from Jerez. I had a diner in the restaurant « Jovenes Flamencos ». This restaurant is not in the very tourist area. The owners saw my camera. They also talked nicely to me. I was the only foreigner. I mentioned my enthusiasm for « authentic » Andalusia. They suggested I come back for the Feria. The next day, I visited the « Casa de la memoria ». Once again I was the only visitor. I talked with Eva, who was in charge of the Center. She also suggested I attend the Feria. Thus, I came back 2 weeks after. What I saw was simply incredible. Local inhabitants meet during four days in « casetas ». They eat, they drink, they dance, they chat, they listen to music, they sing. Nobody is an actor. All is real. It is a golden mine for beauty and authenticity. I am still under the extreme impression produced by such an atmosphere. I never experienced something comparable in Western Europe. But please, do not mention this event to any body. This is my secret spot...
All the people I met there know each other. I learnt that the young lady of this photo is Chora. I would be glad to send her a print.
