Photographer's Note

Well, I know that this isn't the best photo in the world, but I thought it would be interesting to post it here. When we were in the Galapagos, there was much to see and do besides the wildlife. As well as the Miss Ecuador competition on the beach, we were able to watch a parade. Many of the local people make their living from fishing and often accidentally (Or on purpose) end up killing many of the sharks that live near by when fishing with nets. The parade was to raise the awareness of the fishermen not to kill the sharks.
This little lot were dressed as sharks and "schooling" down the street. They were doing a much better job than the American and Antipodean volunteers from the Darwin centre who may have had a drink or two and who's papier mache shark on bicycle wheels was swerving around a fair amount.

Just after we left the Galapagos the fishermen took some tourist guides "hostage" on the island in retaliation over fishing quotas. By all accounts it was a fairly jolly affair that ended well.
