Photographer's Note
In the heart of a town called Baños in Ecuador, there is a meat market where you can try before you buy. Guinea pig being a popular option. So popular in fact that many depictions of the Last Supper have Jesus and the disciples sitting down to a meal of Guinea Pig

I've heard of this but never seen it - they look good! I'd prefer less of the yellow wall and if I could see the face of the chef, but there's not much you can do about that now. Thanks for showing us this.

Why on heart do they always have to keep the head and feet on cooked animals in some countries. Without the head it's only meat, with it it's not that yummy.
Interesting shot and well taken. Could crop the right yellow wall on the right.

Hi Nick. I have a good mate in Bundaberg, Queensland, who has about 40 of these little fellas running free in a fenced in back yard. He would be appalled ; ) Me, I think they look delicious! This is a very interesting look at life in Ecuador, and your note is great. I wish the picture were a little clearer, but it is really interesting!

I like the photo, it shows one aspect of Ecuarorian life which you don't see too often. Although I think it could be a lot better if one of the people were either looking at you or looking at the guinea pigs. They are talking to eachother, so they seem a bit disconnected from both the guinea pigs (which are the main subject) and also from the photographer.

These GP's are alot bigger than the ones sold as pets here in the states. It's an odd but interesting picture.

Two photos on the home page today of a similar subject, one from China one from Ecuador, one showing roasted dogs, another guniea pigs. What has amazed me is that one provokes humour and even the appetite, the other only revulsion. I don't get it, but I think it has more to say about us as viewers, our relationship with animals, conditiong and culture.
