Salento - Let’s buy a hammock

At one of my previous pictures of Salento, Luciano and Carlo asked for the origin of the name of the village.
I must admit that I don’t know and I could not find any information on that.

When I was there the name sounded familiar but I remember I thought at Salerno in Italy.
This name looks a little bit like it but is of course different. When I was in Colombia I didn’t know there was a town in Italy with the name Salento … Sorry Luciano and Carlo.

I also never read anything about Italian migration in Colombia …
Everywhere in the country however you will find good Italian restaurants. But always with Colombians in the kitchen :)
So the origin of the name Salento remains a mystery to me.

The small village may be too touristy, immediately around it you can find wonderful nature.
My main picture is taken in a side street of the main square of Salento. From there you already have a view of the surrounding nature.
(On the other side of the main square there are more streets and houses. The square and the church on it aren’t really located in the middle of the village)

BTW, are there some of you who like to sleep in a hammock?
I've ever done it in Mexico and found it terrible :(
