Photographer's Note

Copiapo is a mining comunity in the Atacama dessert. Many Copper, Silver and Gold mines operate in the region. Thanks to the Rio Copiapo running through the valley it is an oasis.
We came here to visit Parque National Nevado Tres Cruces. Which consits of 2 Lagunes and their surroundings on the altiplano. The drive up to Laguna Santa Rosa was amazing. No other place had I seen the desert more colorful than on this trip up the cordillera. Unfortunatly none of my pictures do the colors of the sand justice.
This picture was taken at the Laguna Santa Rosa at 3600 m. There where some Flamingos and other aquatic birds around. As the park is of the beaten trak we had it completly to ourselves which was very nice and calm. Later we went to Termas Laguna Verde which is higher up close to the Argentinian boarder. This is the only place we encountered other people as basecamp for Volcan Ojos del Salado is there.
I am aware the horizon on my picture is slightly of. Guess the mountains fooled me.
