Photographer's Note
The Square of Thee Powers is huge, it was created to imitate the arid ancient Greek democratic spaces, with no trees, no grass, no gardens, no fountains, only sculptures.
Bruno Giorgio created this huge bronze sculpture, eight meters high, in 1959, it was named "The Warriors" to symbolize the balance between the powers, but local people named it by other name: THE CANDANGOS.
Candangos was the nickname gave to the poor workers who built this town, most of them came from the most arid and poor region of Brazil and lived in timber houses in big groups around the central part. Originally these workers should to move back to their homelands, but they stayed and built the chaotic towns around Brasilia. At the end the word Candango became the nickname of any people who live or was born in Brasilia. Curiously the name Candango came from African language, from Angola, the locals nicknamed the Portuguese as Candangos, a derogatory word for people of not elegant aspect.
In the other side of the square you can see the Planalto Palace, the place where the Brazilian president works, the Congress was at left and the Justice Palace at my back. In the 1980's, during Sarney government we suffered a terrible economic crisis and the place suffered two attempts of terrorism, a man with a bus invaded the palace and another kidnapped a big jet with hundreds of people inside and had a plan to throw the jet in the palace to kill the president, the cloudy sky avoid that.
................

Hi Jorge,
Beautiful nocturnal capture. The Candangos add a nice decoration and well complement the purple architecture.
Very nice angle and optimal exposure. I would maybe cut out the giant street lamp at the left edge of the frame.
Very well done,
M

Hello Jorge,
You have shown us many nighttime photos from Brasilia now, but this is one of the best. It's a very attractive sculpture and it's enhanced by the illumination and the colour contrast with the palace. It's a well exposed and sharp photo.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Jorge,
The point of view is showing the details of the sculpture of the Warrior and of the Palce in the background. The surrounding light is making the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.

Hello Jorge,
Great juxtaposition of this large artwork and the lower building. Also in terms of colours is the contrast very appealing. Good sharpness and clarity, which make the illuminated parts stand out well from the sky.

Hello Jorge,
The term may have been derogatory but there is nothing derogatory about these sculptures. I think that photographing them at night was a very good decision, for their illuminated frames stand out so well against the night sky and make them look particularly imposing.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
