Photographer's Note
Porto Seguro é de fundamental importância no contexto histórico nacional e mundial. Sua história remonta o tempo das grandes navegações, quando Portugal e Espanha exploravam o oceano em busca de novas terras.
Porto seguro é o berço do nascimento do Brasil e sua história começa em 1500, quando o país foi "oficialmente descoberto" por Pedro Álvares Cabral. A princípio, o descobrimento do Brasil foi ao acaso, já que um “acidente de percurso” fez com que a frota de Cabral desembarcasse no Brasil. O rei de Portugal, Dom Manuel, enviou Cabral e sua esquadra com a missão de aportar em Calecute, cidade do estado de Kerala na costa ocidental da Índia, com o objetivo de fundar uma feitoria para comercializar especiarias.
Na altura das Ilhas de Cabo Verde, na costa africana, a expedição desvia-se da rota e, impulsionada por ventos fortes, aproxima-se da costa brasileira, onde hoje se localiza o extremo sul da Bahia e a Costa do Descobrimento.
Em 21 de abril de 1500, Cabral avista terra firme pela primeira vez no território brasileiro. Conforme explica Pero Vaz de Caminha, “na distância de dez léguas onde tínhamos levantado ferro, acharam os ditos navios pequenos um recife com um porto dentro, muito bom e muito seguro, com uma mui larga entrada”. O lugar avistado era o monte Pascoal, sessenta e dois quilômetros ao sul de Porto Seguro. No dia seguinte, 22 de abril, os portugueses desembarcaram em terra firme pela primeira vez no atual território brasileiro. Deu-se então o descobrimento do Brasil em 22 de abril de 1500.

essa teoria do acaso já é meio fora de moda, agora acham que ele aproveitou a viagem para carimbar a terra brasilis como portuguesa. há até uma teoria que colombo era português e não italiano e que ele informou o rei de portugal da descoberta da américa antes mesmo de chegar à espanha.. mas tal qual a biografia de cristo, as histórias dos descobrimentos são cheias de pontos ocultos.
curiosa essa vista do caos urbano com o coqueiral ao fundo, fui aí em 1999

Lucas, it is an important place in Brazil history. It becomes nowadays a peaceful town on the Altantic coast of Bahia state. The elevated point offers a splendid view of the roofs, the coconut trees and the sea in the bg. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.

Hello Lucas,
The colours are very attractive and well saturated in this view of the city where modern Brazil was born. I suppose the people already living here had discovered the land long before the Portuguese arrived ;-). I like the view of the mainly flat roofs and beyond them the wonderfully turquoise sea.
