Photographer's Note

This is a fisherman in his rowing boat on Lake Titicaca nearing the Suriqui Island on the Bolivian side of the lake.
The plants around the boat are Totora reeds traditionally used for building the famous Totora boats. The reeds grow in shallow areas in the lake and are harvested from boats using a long stick with a sharp knife at the end; they are cut close to the bottom.
The reeds are also used for feeding animals, building houses and even for creating artificial floating islands.
