Photographer's Note

I am returning to my trip to South America, to the center-northern part of Argentina, what some call "Gaucho" land, or Ranch land.
Me and my friend Lee visited Sayta Ranch, located some 35 km south of Salta, at the entrance to Chicoana village after a previous visit of Lee to the place. She was so overwhelmed by the hospitality and feeling of a home, she had to go back for another visit.
Sayta Ranch do horse back riding tours in the area, but not just that. Accompanying are a feast with more meat and wine that you can take in and a special atmosphere of culture. Many times Tono, the guy that plays the string instrument, would get up and take a quena (an Andean style flute) or guitar and start playing, singing in a wonderful voice, feeling the air with melodies that are part of the Gaucho Folklore. It was one of the best times in this trip, the best company ever.
In this instance, Lee accepted to play the "Bombo" or more accurately, "Bombo legüero" which is a kind of drum, made of the trunk of a tree and with goat's leather stretched at the top. There are special rhythms that are suited for several tunes, and Lee got the hang of it so quickly, she turned out to be the "Bombo" player when new visitors came for horse back riding tours.
More to come...
