The Hokianga Vehicle Ferry

When you are finally ready to leave Rawene, the small township on the Hokianga Harbour in the Far North of Aotearoa / New Zealand, simply drive onto the car ferry, which leaves every hour for Kohukohu where you can take the scenic, back route to Kaitaia and the far North.

The Hokianga Vehicle Ferry (between Rawene and Kohu Kohu) is on Northlands twin coast discovery route, highway 12.

The Ferry crosses the Hokianga Harbour Narrows between Rawene on the South and Kohu Kohu on the Northern side of the harbour.

The ferry departs every hour on the half-hour from Rawene and on the hour from Narrows at Kohukohu. The first sailing leaves Rawene at 7.30 am, with the last sailing leaving the Narrows at 8 pm.

South from Rawene are the giant sand dunes at Omapere, the Waipua forest and Dargaville or break inland to cross over to state highway 1 and the East Coast.

From Kohu Kohu North is Ninety Mile Beach, Cape Reinga, Coopers surf beach and other attractions in the Far North district of New Zealand.
