Photographer's Note

Hi all. This is the Ngaruroro River which starts its life in the Kaweka Ranges in the central North Island of NZ and enters the Pacific Ocean near the city of Napier.
Myself and two friends recently made a rafting trip down this river starting at this spot. The only access to this point is by foot or by aircraft, we took the latter option ;-). We spent four days rafting and left the river about half way down, the rapids reach grade 5 after that and we have no experience or skills for white water that big. Prior to our get out point the largest rapids are grade 3, fun but not too difficult.
As the only access is by foot or aircraft this is most definitely real wilderness and very few people get to experience the area. This point is above the winter snow line and it wasn’t that long before we were here that all this would have had a covering of snow, we had late snow this year.
We camped next to the airstrip on the first night to give us time to pump up the raft and settle in to our trip. This shot was taken early the next morning.
In WS two bonus shots.
Enjoy, Paul.
