We continued heading south passing through the small old river port of Wilcannia (population: 550). You can see my past photos of Wilcannia if you look in the Wilcannia folder.
We drove on towards our next stop of Menindee. There were clouds about but the road was dry. About 1/2 way to Menindee we started to see rain ahead. That wasn't what we wanted because the road that you see in the photo would quickly turn to muddy, sticky clay with rain.
It did start raining on us and then came some very scary driving as the car slipped from side to side on the road. Luckily there was no other traffic to avoid.
In the workshop is a view from near the same spot looking towards more rain across the red soiled plain.

Hi Ian,
We had a thunderstorm here last night with a few loud bangs. Good catch of the falling rain shower in the distance with nice warm cold colour contrasts. The road adds perspective. Tfs!

Hello Ian,
The sky ahead of you looks quite intimidating, especially considering the primitive road, but it looks good in a photo.(I think you forgot a 'no' in the second last sentence).

Hello Ian,
The rain appearing like a big curtain beyond the trees and the road leading towards it.
Excellent depiction of such a phenomenon, where the rain only over part of the landscape.
Good evening,

Hello Ian,
I can imagine the heart-stopping moment as the rain turned your road to slime! It happens with snow and ice on our roads in winter!
This really does have to be opened in the large format to appreciate the effects of the descending rain!
This photograph is definitely more dramatic!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi Ian,
THe road leads my eyes toward the trees which is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the road and of the trees. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Ian,
I think I would rather to see rain coming than wildfire.
A little bit of downpour ... definitely brings the nature back to life.
Well, an expert driver like you ... I'm sure you'll manage even the scary experienced you had. The car slipped from side to side ... that sounds like fun and adventurous.
At least you're OK at the end :-)
The scene in WS1 - is Stunning. Red soil and menacing clouds.
Thanks for sharing this 'scary' drive.

Hello Ian, not the sight that you wanted to see, knowing that the roads would soon change in wet conditions.
I like the colours of the foreground contrasting with the cloudy threatening sky.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Ian,
beautiful natural scenery. I like the well captured grey skies with the rain visibly falling in the distance.
The darker sky made the ground part appearing brighter, the contrast is so nice. I like the warm colors across the frame.
Very well seen and captured,
M

Hello Ian,
I like the curvature of the dirt road, as though it were trying to avoid the rain in the distance. Majestic outback!
