Photographer's Note
Sydney has a huge Chinese population with the Lunar Festival being big every year. This year around Circular Quay 12 larger-than-life animal signs of the Lunar zodiac were installed. They were actually Lunar Lanterns and lit at night.
This one is the dog and it seems to be guarding the cruise ship moored behind him. The Dog was designed by Australian/Chinese artist Song Ling.
In the workshop is another one - the Dragon.

An excellent photo of the waterfront with the huge ship in the background. The large and colourful dog makes another great addition to the composition. The people are nicely scattered around the foreground and add a pleasant and relaxed mood.

It's a nice view and a well composed photo. The dog provides a large, bright spot and a surprising element, and the people and pattern of the street make the view quite lively. The "Date taken" looks strange. It's not already Friday in Australia, is it? ;-)

Hi Ian, That's great and striking juxtaposition of this sleek 'all business' cruise liner and the colourful Lunar Lantern dog! The people in the FG work well here. The big surely catches attention. Rocks side of Circular Quay is a lovely place full of life. And of course I like the cruise ship too. Round windows suggest that there are cabins facing forwards, not the cheapest ones I guess!

I love this idea of creating huge, decorative animals, to symbolise a festival. They immediately draw attention, the perfect result to link the people with the festival. Who could miss this giant, friendly, patchwork dog! You have placed it well in the frame, using the cruise ship and a useful and interesting b/g.

In Manchester, the symbols were decorated cows. When the festival finished, the cows were auctioned and fetched thousands of pounds.
