Photographer's Note

During my short stay in Alice Springs in Northern Territory I went on a special walking tour run by the by the Anangu, the traditional custodians of the Uluru national park. What you see in this photo is only a small part of the base of the giant monolith which looms to great heights left of the image. The midday sun worked its magic on both the rock and the surrounding shrubs.

I wrote at length about Uluru and its geological history for my photo titled "Australia's Heart."

By the way, I only noticed on Photoshop that there is a face etched on the left part of the image. The man is facing left but his eyes are shut. Of course it's only the result of erosion and weathering and not part of some extra-terrestrial message.
