Photographer's Note
this boat was on a farm some way south of devonport, so a long way from water. i don't know why the sign was painted on it.
technical question is - how to put life into really flat light??. some light (example this photo, taken at 11.40am) makes the whole photo look dull. post processing doesn't seem to lift it. any suggestions welcome

G'day Perry,
Good subject, but that light is really flat. Maybe you could try putting some life back into it.
Welcome home.

Hi Perry,
Good framing and you could use a UV protection filter-Provides basic reduction of ultraviolet light or a Circular Polarized Filter-Light rays which are reflected by any surface become polarized and polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens.

Jason.

Hi Perry,
I stumbled onto this shot after reading you message on the Forum concerning the lenghty Wikipedia quote. Since I agreed with your text I wanted to know some more about the man behind it and from there, because I liked the ideas in the introduction, I wanted to take a wee look at your photos and...wel, about your technical question...you can of cours replace the sky by postprocessing with Adobe Photoshop, but it will be a lenghty and complicated task wit all these tree and their branches. An other thing you could do is try to lure the spectator's eye away from that uninspiring sky by giving more punch to the subject of your shot the boat and the sheep. You can achieve this by selecting them and applying USM (unsharp mask). A ittleboost in the colors of the boat might also help. These are just a few ideas...
Greetings from a cold and wet Luxemburg
John
