Photographer's Note

Platform at the railway station of Albury.

In the older days there was also a gap between rails here. In Albury normal gauge (1435 mm) track of New South Wales met wide gauge (1600 mm) of Victoria. It was a busy station with loading and unloading freight from one system to another. In 1961 normal gauge line was extended to Melbourne. Since then Albury and Melbourne were connected with two different gauges until 2008 when the wide gauge line was closed for modernisation and conversion to standard gauge.
