Photographer's Note

One of the strange stone columns standing near Great Ocean Road a few kilometres west of the famous Twelve Apostles.

Port Campbell Limestone is generally dated at 15-20 million years old. But the famous stone formations have formed in the last 6000 years, as a result of sea level rise after the last ice age. Evolution of a rock stack from headland to arch to stack and eventual collapse can take place in just a few hundred years on the Port Campbell coast.
