Photographer's Note
The Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne is one of the few remaining 'world fair' buildings from the 19th century and the only surviving Great Hall of the Palace of Industry, the centrepiece of the International Exhibitions. The building, completed in 1880, was the first non-Aboriginal cultural site in Australia to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage site (in 2004).
Although strict water restrictions in force at present have deprived the fountain in front of the imposing main entrance of its full splendour, it is still a thing of beauty and much admired by locals as well as visitors.
