Photographer's Note

10 APRIL 2004, THE CAUSEWAY, MELBOURNE

Melbourne is known as Australia's shopping capital and this belief is not unfounded. From the suburban shopping centres to the core you'll find just about anything and everything worth buying. Chances are, a lot of these items will be marked "On Sale" also.

Within the city centre, each street tends to boast it's own specialty goods:

Bourke Street: Big department stores- Myers, David Jones, Target

Elizabeth Street: Motorcycles, Photographic Equipment

Colins Street: High end international fashions, imported jewelry and antiques

Bourke Street (Mall): Jewelry Stores

Swanson Street: Opals, Souvenirs, Discount Goods

Little Bourke Street: China Town- Groceries, Antiques, Books... Food!

Lonsdale Street: Greek Precinct

Russell Street (cr. Bourke Street): Cinemas

etc etc...

So get out your loose change and have some fun in Melbourne next time you're out and about. Nothing like retail therapy (it's good for our economy too.)

This frame was shot on The Causeway, a branch off Bourke Street Mall and right in the heart of the jewelry quarter.

As a point of interest, how many 50/50s can you spot in the frame? There are so many opposities and contrasts here that I lost count...
