Photographer's Note

19 FEBRUARY 2005, FLINDERS STREET, MELBOURNE

A child beside her father chews on the end of a piece of tissue paper, her attention momentarily distracted.

For all the events in our lives, it's the little ones that wholly consume us, for the shortest of moments, driven by intensity and instinct that I find the most rewarding.

While I thought nothing of this vantage point at the time to me it makes sense now in hindsight-- we can only project our assumptions of what it is like to be a kid; I'm sure many of the nuances of our childhood are lost in our nostalgia or simply make no sense and have been forgotten.

I wonder if this girl will remember what she was looking towards at this moment, ten, twenty years from now?
