Photographer's Note

Devils are only found wild in Tasmania. It is an animal the size of a small dog. It is a scavenger and its numbers decreased when the Tasmanian tiger (Thylacinus cynocephalus)became extinct (1930's) and there was no other creature that could kill animals the devil could then eat. But when cars became common in Tasmania devil numbers rose again... For a couple of years it has been suffering from an unknown illness and its numbers are decreasing rapidly to an extent that the devil may be a threatened species soon. We actually saw a devil in the wild but it was too dark for a pic. This one was taken in a reserve.

Wes Wang (weswang) also has a picture and comments on the devil.
