This brightly coloured bird is another parrot that regularly visits our back yard. He (this is a male) is an Australian king parrot (Alisterus scapularis). I caught him sitting on the fence looking for what might be tasty in our yard as well as keeping an eye on me. They are a mid-sized parrot being up to 43 cm long.
This one (in October) would have been looking for seeds, fruits, and berries in trees but at this time of year he comes looking for my apples and quinces and they, along with white cockatoos, can do a lot of damage as they only go for the seeds leaving the rest of each apple or quince to fall to the ground. For this reason our fruit trees are well netted.

Hello Ian,
The photo is well taken, perfectly sharp and well exposed, but even in spite of your skill it's the fantastic bird that makes this such a good photo.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Ian,
the colors are stunning. May be the red is even too strong. I need to check on the other screen but on the monitor right now it even lost its details being so very red. At the same time the subtle texture of the green part is perfectly defined.
Amazing sight!

Hello Ian,
I'm not surprised that he is called 'king' for he is splendidly dressed and stands out so clearly against the oof b/g! His eye has a fine catchlight and, is obviously very alert.
When you eat your apples, do you leave the seeds for the birds?
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Ian,
Now King Parrots I HAVE seen in Queensland, but mostly in cooler, elevated forested mountains and plateaus like Lamington or Bunya Mts. Good use of a shallow dof with perfect sharpness on the bird. Tfs!

Hello Ian,
An excellent close-up of this parrot against a nice and blurry background. The sharpness is superb and the red and green colours of the feathers are very well saturated.

Hello Ian,
What beautiful and colourful birds one finds in his garden in Australia!
We have sparrows and tits ...
With its bright red plumes, this parrot really catches the eye.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Ian,
One handsome King Parrot with the red 'crown & armour' to die for.
This King has a cute friendly eye, looking for unnetted fruit trees which can be worth savaging :-)
Tbh, I haven't tried quinces before. Taste like pear I suppose.
Oh, I forgot to salute the King! :-)
At your service, my King.

Hello Ian, what a brightly coloured bird, birds like this would only be seen in a zoo in the UK, so I can't imagine seeing one in my garden.
The sharp quality is very good, focusing solely on the bird with a lovely out of focus background.
Kind regards, Jean.

ian
a nice flagrant of the animal. the red of his head is impressive. I can imagine the damage it causes. here the small parrots can bring damages to corn plantations, but they are rare in my zone yet.
take care
jorge
