At this time of year Little Corellas (Cacatua sanguinea) leave their young in trees around where I live. Corellas are members of the cockatoo family but slightly smaller than the commonly known Sulphur Crested Cockatoo.The young corellas play with each other but at times you can clearly hear them crying for their parents and food. Once the food arrives you can hear the adult bird regurgitating food to feed the young ones.
When I took this photo out the back of our house there were nasty storm clouds approaching but the birds were still in the sun. The view was irresistible so I dashed inside and grabbed my camera and put on my big lens to take this photo at 500mm, hand held. I hope you like it.
Tomorrow a black cockatoo in my back yard.

The birds are cute, the branches and twigs are very decorative, but it's the combination of warm light and dark clouds that makes this such a catchy photo.

Wonderful capture and superb image, I know it is extremely difficult to get such a good shot, as they normally roost so high up in the trees. An interesting bird, well photographed using 500mm lens hand held, is quite an achievement!

Hi Ian,
you have clearly very different bird species behind your window. I cannot complain actually neither.
Here the main advantage is certainly the light as you mentioned.
The dark grey sky makes an amazing background for bright birds, and in spite of the contrast they are so well captured with all details.

How interesting that you can observe the daily life pressures of these birds, as well as photograph them!
The dark sky makes a great, contrasting b/g to the pale feathers of the birds.
What would the parents be bringing back as food?
