Photographer's Note

A bit farther west than Trundle, the scene of my first posting in this series, is the mining town of Cobar and its very impressive Great Western hotel which was built in 1998 during one of Cobar’s mining booms (copper).
The Great Western Hotel in Cobar doesn’t have its own website but various websites make the claim that it has the longest iron lace verandah in the Southern hemisphere and/or the longest pub verandah in Australia or just in NSW. The length is always given as 100m.
The web site for the Trundle pub claims to have the longest pub verandah in NSW at 87.6 metres but on the website they do acknowledge that “There are reports that there is a hotel in Cobar with a slightly longer verandah, we did check it out. However it took so long to get back from Cobar we forgot ???”
