Photographer's Note
Location: The Devils Garden is just off of Hole-in-the-Rock road in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.
About the Photo: Photographing these strange looking hoodoos at sunset was very fun. I thought that adding a person to the shot might make it a little more interesting and show the scale of the rocks better. These rocks can be shot at sunrise and sunset with equally great light. Here is a shot a took the following morning.

Hi Ryan,
Man you post slow, you really leave all of us in despair in the wait for a new gem from your hand ;-)
Light is your trademark, this one is no expection to that rule. The human element makes the scaling complete and together with that rock on the left we have a great composition in sight.
As usual a great shot...i didn't expect anything else from you...!!!
Take care, Henk

Great shot with vivid colors.
However, I would have avoided the dark left side. See WS.

Hi Ryan
What a beautifull place. You get also a nice light and a great cloudy sky. The child is perfectly placed in the light.

Hello Ryan,an excellent composition and presentation.
The inclusion of the figure was a good idea, especially as he is looking to the hoodoo.
The fg shadow adds extra depth; the setting sun emphasises the textures and colour of the rocks.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Very beautiful light in this photograph.
The colors are well contrasted. The presence of the character is a reality more in this landscape. Cheer.

Hello Ryan
Long time since your last image, master stroke pulled of by yourself by positioning the lady in the right spot, shows the depth of the rocks. Super lighting and colours compliment this scene, I really like the shadow from the girl also.
Well done

Hi Ryan,
very nice shot, I love the orange light of the sunset. good sizing with the person next to the hoodoo. The clouds in the sky add some nice movement to the image. May be aI would have cropped the dark part at the bottom
but very nice job

The light, the colours, the human to give scale and make the place alive, the framing with the rock on the left, the wonderful sky and the geological features are the elements that make this outstanding picture. And behind all that is your excellent sense of beauty.

Hello Ryan,
Wonderful capture. The light, the subject, the sky, the composition, the POV all just perfect. I especially like the defiant challenging pose the boy has taken in front of the rock, quite Biblical.
Warm wishes

Hello Ryan,
Great use of the woman to show the scale of the rock, andthe lighting overall is exceptionally well managed. What I really like about the image is the swirling effect of the high level clouds, which one could easily mistake for moving mist at a low level.....created by the low POV. Technically superb. Very well done.

Hi Ryan!
I have never completely understood the logic behind the
rule that say that every landscape shot is better
without people in it. As if people are not part of nature
and we have to deny them? (now I'm referring to shot like
yours, where input of elements of composition is carefully
chosen and with taste, if you know what I mean.
Lovely tones, contrast and colours.
Cheers,
Robi

Great light here Euryan! I can see that you're still in love with your polarizer and it keeps delivering great output. I have been forgetting mine more and more... Don't like what I see when I used it on my wide-angle. But here it's great. Adding the person to the compo was a great move, one that I am seeing you use more and more... Don't forget to take also some pictures without the help of your family. ;) I like the compo because this rock on the foreground left adds some depth into the scene. But a close crop of the both subjects would have worked perfectly too. Nice to have you back.
PS: If I am not active, what can I say about you...? :)

Hi Ryan,
I like the dark rock in shadow in the foreground as I think that it frames the scene beyond really well to focus our attention on the rock formations and that wonderfully wispy clouded sky. The shot has a nice sense of the granduer of nature and the person is a good element for scale in this wonderful clear image.

hi ryan,
great thing, this...
indeed facing each other - the rock and the observer seem to be "talking to each other"... about what? about who rukes? about life?... who knows - but we may interpret freely...

Fantastic scenery taken in such a beautiful light. The sky, the vertical format and the fact that you have included the person makes it so dynamic.

Hello Ryan! I just came back from this part of the world and I am always excited when other members come up with "red stone" but when I see yours I delete my collection :) Just kidding, it is not so bad but your versions are always a great inspiration that I also took to Utah in June and tried to remember when I stood there somewhere in Escalante land. Including the girl is the real treat in this one and how she looks up studyig the stone formation. Your photo brings me back to a wonderful time, Utah is fantastic and I am not yet over and I hope I will have the chances to return. Wonderful work ... thanks ... Barbara.

Ryan,
I'm a little late joining the party on this one - still, it's often better to join a party that's in full swing! ;)
Love the one/two/three composition here - the brilliance of the light, and the depth which comes from the soft shadows. Lucky to have a willing model!

Truly is face to face image, a stare down contest, Very impressive landscape, perfect sky and cloud for backdrop, the evening light provide warm but gentle color to enhance the beauty of the red rocks. Perfect sharpness and clarity. Great shot.
There is so many amazing beauty in the US. It baffles me that so many of the people I know from the U.S. have never see the beauty of our country. They have been abroad but never set foot out of the city where they live other than Las Vegas. I don’t get it? What about all the Natural parks in Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and many more…go see them. It’s mind blowing some of these place…Thanks for this one, I have not yet been.

Another cool shot. I love the "interplay" between the person and the rock. I do find the rock to the left a bit distracting though--maybe a smaller crop or the shot taken a bit to the right of here would have been better. Fabulous light though.

hello Ryan,
I looked at the WS (not that I can see much in that size...) and I have to say I prefer the original, the darker part works well as a frame, and together with the shadow in the foreground it also adds a sense of depth. love the colours, and, of course, the sky, the smoke-like clouds are perfect for creating a striking contrast with the textures of the rock. and with the girl just in the right place the photo can be filed under "superb" :) excellent work, my compliments.
with best regards,
Kristine

Hello Ryan!
Beautiful shot, with great blue sky and beautiful golden colors.
I like the idea of the person looking up to the rock: it gives proportion, but a sense of vertical prospective also, something like a pyramid!
I like also your framing with the dark column of rock on the left but I can't avoid wondering about a close up on the boy-golden rock couple...
My best compliments

Hi Ryan,
I could gaze at this picture for hours. I first saw it on my laptop during my recent trip to the US (which included a brief foray into southern Utah) and was struck by 1) the fantastic quality of the light and 2) your very imaginative composition. What really makes it for me is the human figure: I love her pose, gazing up at the hoodoo with a sense of awe and veneration, communicating with it in some mystical way. I also like the deep blue sky, the swirling, whispy cloud and the inclusion of the rock on the left, which frames the scene and adds a sense of mystery - almost as though we're intruders gazing in.

Ryan,
an absolute great framing of this action between the hoodoo and the person in twisted motion looking up to the top of the hoodoo. The colors are just right shining in the last glow of the day. Wonderful polarized sky to contrast against the warm colors of the sandstone.
