The Lone Cyprus
17-Mile Drive
Pebble Beach, CA
The lone cyprus is probably the most well-known stops along the scenic 17-Mile Drive in Pebble Beach. It is the official symbol of Pebble Beach and it is illegal to sell take photographs of this tree for commercial use. The tree is now over 250 years old, and you can only view from a distance.
Cyprus trees are found on the central coast of California, with wild groves only in two areas: Monterey and Carmel, with both of these groves being protected. They are well-suited to being bathed in fog and exposure to high wind (one of the reasons the top of the tree is flat).

The lone cypress tree on that rocky ridge granted you a very beautiful image, with that modest tone of light and beautiful colors. The sea surface, the sky and the rocks all have very nice textures. A quite moody landscape. I like it...

Hello Amber,
What a fabulous shot of the Lone Cypress on the 17-Mile Drive. This really is one of the finest images I've seen since digital cameras came out. The composition, perspective, colors and resolution are all exquisite. I was a post doc at University of California-Berkeley when my family and made that memorable drive from San Francisco to LA, passing through this area on the way. By the way, congratulations for finishing your Ph.D. I remember your wonderful shots of the hot-air balloons, I believe, while you were still working on your Ph.D.
