Photographer's Note
Morro Bay is located just over 100 miles north of Santa Barbara and only about 15 miles northwest of San Luis Obispo.
I've been to Morro Bay 3 times in my life and I've noticed that Morro Rock often experiences it's own weather. I invite you to take a look at another photo I have in my gallery titled "At the Dock" which demonstrates what I'm talking about.
The two little "stars" in the sky I believe are planets but astronomy is not my strong suit. They actually could be stars.

Fantastic Greg! I love the spectrum of colors and your composition of the boats and land formation. The rule of thirds is appropriately executed. How did you get these great colors?

A lovely shot! Perfect capture of the stillness of a California shoreline sunset (that is, when the water cooperates). All the parts are well-balanced and the boat masts add an extra touch.

Hi Gregory,
I think liking or not liking the framing of the picture is something everyone will have a different opinion on... But not looking at the frame ;-) I think you caught a great shot here!
I didn't find the other shot of the rock - I gave up after 5 pages of your gallery. Maybe I missed it. But I now see that I've been commenting on you three days in a row. Three great postings I have to say!
Greetings,
Dennis

Hi Gregory,
I was there last year, a nice place, bit touristic but i enjoyd the view on the water. I had in plan to make such a photo like this but the weather was hazy and the day ended with terrible sunset. And now seeing this..oh man i wish i really had this kind of weather. Your picture is so bright and crisp in detail and color. That gradient of blue is just stunning. The orange stripe on the horizon, the boats in the waterm, they all make this picture work. See the lines in the water, the mirror and the reflection, different layers of light, depth, great mood...superb.
The lights from the pier on the horizon, twinkling up like candles...wonderful.
But it is that blue gradient that does is for me, because i know how difficult it is to capture this. It's your mkII...that sensor is so neutral without flaws, it's really great, and i know because i have compared my mkII raw files many times with the ones from a 20D and 30D...those ones are not even comes close in dynamic range and that is what you need here...the dynamic range which is essentiel for landscapes like this.
A wonderful photo. I steal it from you and put it in my list...thanks ;-)
Regards, Henk
