Photographer's Note
Shot of the Arthur M. Anderson from the Canadian excursion vessel "Chief Shingwauk." The "Chief" was chartered for the www.boatnerd.com's annual Soo Locks freighter chase cruise which generally coincides with the Engineering Day festivities at the locks. This was the only freighter contacted on this particular cruise. The Arthur M. Anderson was the last boat to "see" the freighter Edmund Fitzgerald "alive" via radar before the latter ship met her fate not far from the Soo back in November of 1975. Other lake freighters can be seen in the boatnerd photo galleries as well as at www.photobones.com/ships/ShipPictures.html

James,
Good photograph, nice color and good detail but a great note to go with it. Great capture,
Greg

That water looks so cold. So northern Michigan. The deep darkness of that blue is beautiful. And then the Anderson steaming through it with that grimy, dirty, fading hull matches perfectly with the water. And again so does the bridge in the back. It's all so industrial and mechanical, utilitarian. Maybe boosting the contrast would help in adding to that harsh, mechanical behemoth feel. It's so odd to see the ages of some of these ships... This one sailing since before 1975 and others from decades before. I wonder how much longer a lot of them can be pushed.
