Photographer's Note
May Path
Roxborough State Park
Just South of Denver, Colorado
November Path has been one of my most poorly received images I have uploaded to TE. So I thought I'd share another image of the same path .. from Spring.
This is the side path up to the Lyons Overlook .. my favorite place in the park.
The main loop trail at Roxborough is wide and well kept. However, many of the side paths are tiny and overgrown. This poses a dangerous issue with the prevalence of rattlesnakes in this area.
A couple hours after this image was taken we were having a picnic lunch off of a bench on a similar path to this one. As I was gathering the last couple things out of the van a pair of men came down the trail and spoke to my wife .. one of them continued on to get a park ranger. Apparently about 40 yards up the trail the man had stepped within inches of an angry rattlesnake that was attempting to sun bathe along the edge of the path. Luckily he was not bitten. The other man had gone around somehow. The man's family was stranded on the far side of the snake .. unwilling to risk passing by.
In a few minutes a ranger appeared .. I would have thought she would have had a special tool of some sort .. but no .. as she chatted with us she hunted around for a suitable branch .. then disappeared up the trail .. in a few minutes roughly 30 hikers streamed by .. all of which were apparently backed up behind the snake .. the ranger reappeared stating that she had managed to move the snake around 6 feet off the trail and get him calmed .. needless to say I decided to skip the potential photographic opportunity : )

Quite an epic for the hikers John. Good thing no harm happened to anyone, including the snake. I wonder sometimes why people don't take the time to look at pictures like this one. It has a peaceful and wild feeling and the kind of trails I enjoy. Nice one John :-)

Hi John,
Lovely green view, the true nature ... with only a little path. Maybe a person walking in this path would be interesting to give life at your shot.

Hi John.
A very nice path to take it and enjoy all the aromas, the calmness and the coolness and somewhere to meet a brown bear!

Have a nice time.

Hi John.
Lovely nature..so green, and the narrow path is so well in frame.

Hi John,
The trail here looks quite narrow amid the thickness of leaves. Quite a contrast to the November Path.
I enjoyed the story about the rattlesnake. They are quite manageable, but you have to know what you're doing--clearly a good park ranger there! Snake season should get more intense now as we head into summer.
Be safe,
José

Hi John,
Lovely green tangled image of this narrow trail that would give one pause to follow toward the dangerous viper. Wonderful note of how this sunbather cause such stress.

Hi John,
I guess that this is one of those cases where the photographer (you) feels something sad because almost nobody pays much attention to a photo that is so dear to him. I think that it happens with everyone a time or another. I hope that this one has more success than the other one.
I must confess that I am not sure if I would write anything about it if it wasn't for the note. I am not doing it for pity, but I had to give it a second look to start seeing something more than "just a snapshot of a pretty forest trail". Showing the 'pretty trail' is enough good reason to post it, but actually there is something 'magic' on it - the branches and the game of light and shadows, all that green, remind me of those stories of 'magic forests and paths'.
The November path is a bit depressing. Actually, I thought that it was a burnt area, so it's a good surprise seeing that I was wrong.
Regards, José.
